Earth Day Number Mats

Earth Day is celebrated on the 22nd of April across the world. Do you also participate? Plan on adding these fun and FREE Earth Day number mats to your preschool learning plans!

FREE Earth Day counting and number mats with ten frames, perfect for preschoolers to practice math skills while celebrating the Earth.

Work on number sense up to number 10 with your preschoolers using these Earth Day numbers mats! It can be used with playdough, or, a dry-erase marker with counting manipulatives.

How to prepare this activity:

Print the Earth Day number mats and laminate or use dry-erase pockets to make it more durable. Provide either playdough(we used blue and green here for obvious reasons, but any color will do), or, dry-erase markers together with manipulatives like pompoms, mini erasers, beads, buttons or anything you have readily available. TIP: Add opportunity for fine motor skill practice by adding plastic tweezers/tongs to pick up the pompoms.

How to use the printables:

Pick a number mat. When you use a dry-erase marker and manipulatives: Trace the numeral and number name with the marker.

Count the pictures. Then, add the manipultives while counting on the ten frame, from left to right. We do it in this manner because we train the eyes to follow the direction we use for reading too.

If you decide to use playdough, form a piece of playdough into a snake, then form the number by filling the numeral. (This is the easiest way we have found to form a number in one go.) Roll balls of playdough to show the number on the ten frame. Again, moving from left to right. Remember to count the pictures too!

What a fun way to work on numbers, number sense and counting too! Whether you decide on using playdough or counting manipulatives, I am sure your preschoolers will love this activity for Earth Day! Grab you free set of printables now and save it for the month of April!
