Print and laminate all the cards. You should laminate both the jar cards as well as the tadpole alphabet cards. Cut up the tadpole cards and place them in a sensory bin with colored rice or other dry material that mimics "water".
Catching Tadpoles – Alphabet Sort
These mats are so much fun for preschoolers and kindergarten kids alike. You could totally differentiate these alphabet mats depending on the level of the students in your group. The kids will identify the letters on the jars, then pick one ‘tadpole alphabet card’ out randomly. They will identify the letter name and then look for the matching jar. You could also choose to work on a set of four letters at a time or on the whole set depending on the level in your group.
I’ve also included a set of black and white options which you could choose to use as a booklet as your kids cut and paste these into the jar. Print two pages on one to create mini take-home booklets.
You could also choose the letters you are working on and focus on a particular set rather than the whole set at once. The kids will love doing this! If you would like these mats larger, print the mats on A3 poster paper.
