To prepare:
- Printer
- Paper or card stock
- Laminator (optional)
- Scissors
Print as many sets as you need for the
number of students in your class. If you are using these in a center,
it’s a great idea if you have an extra set just in case you want
another group to get started on the cards. There are 32 ‘koala
cards’ and 36 matching ‘eucalyptus leaf’ cards.
Preschool Shapes & Alphabet Matching Activity Set
This free printable koala themed
activity comes with colorful ‘eucalyptus’ letter and shape cards
to encourage kids to ‘feed the koalas’ by matching their upper
and lowercase letters and shapes. Preschool
students will practice alphabet upper and lowercase matching skills,
identifying letters, identifying shapes, and reading shape words. I
would guide the kids by showing them a guide on identifying the
letter or word shown on the koala and then find the matching letter
or shape picture.
After you’ve printed, laminated and
cut the cards. The kids can either work on each ‘koala card’ at a
time (I find ELLs love this simplicity) or you could print 6 on 1
page and use it as a mat. This also saves you prep time. Kids love
and usually respond really well to themed literacy activities and
this one has a great Australian theme. I use these cards with my ESL
students too. To help simplify this activity further with my ELLs, I
usually write the shape word and draw the corresponding shape next to
it on the whiteboard.
