It’s essential to help kids build a strong math foundation with fun hands-on activities. This activity can be used to teach preschoolers number sense, counting and work on their 1-to-1 correspondence by counting objects and
understanding that 1 object = 1 (numeral). This activity helps them
do this by matching the number of dots shown on the dice (no matter
how they are positioned) to the number of dots on the matching puzzle
piece.

Print as many cards as you will need
for your group of students. Preferably print on cardstock, then
laminate and cut them up. There are 24 cards in the set, both in color and black/white. You can
totally differentiate the cards according to the students’
abilities. Use the cards with numbers to 5 with your beginning
students and the others for your more capable students.
Counting with Dice Rainbow Puzzle Cards
This free
resource is a perfect way to introduce preschool students to
counting.
To prepare you will simply need to print these cards in color on
cardstock then laminate them. Cut up the rainbow puzzles according to
the dashed lines given. Prepare to show the kids that they need to
make a rainbow so have them pick a rainbow card puzzle with a die on
it. Show them how to count the dots on the die to find out what
number they need to look for. After they count they will find the
matching puzzle piece with the same number of dots in it. They
continue this until they’ve completed all puzzles. 😉
With these cards, you can totally use
manipulatives like math unifix cubes or counters to have the kids
show their numbers at the top with each card as they make their
puzzles.
